The School Of Excellence in Indigenous Youth Art (SEIYA) held a launch on the 19th of September 2012. Many were excited to attend the big evening, as there was a lot of artwork and sculptures to see, great food prepared by the year 11 hospitality students and many speeches were presented. Special guests Curtis Pitt the Mulgrave representative, Paul Bong a local Indigenous artist and Margret Ashworth the Post-Ed’s co-ordonator all attended the afternoon. The evening ended on a high note as everyone was impressed with how everything went. Many photos were taken which are in our new gallery page (go check it out). The School of Excellence is officially launched.

Artist Workshop Planning
What? Artist workshop
When? This term
Where? Gordonvale State High School
Why? To help inspire
Term 4 we’re organising a workshop where an indigenous artist will come to Gordonvale SHS to talk to the students from grades 8-12 about how they became an artist. The artist will show them techniques of how to be an artist and help them work on the artwork.
We want an artist to come and inspire the young artistic students to enjoy and create their own art work. Through this workshop students will be able to think and be inspired and make progress with the artistic talent that they have within themselves. This way they will be able to make art that will be shown in our gallery and worldwide.
Blog and Web Presence under Construction…Stay Tuned!
“The Gordonvale State High School’s ‘School of Excellence in Indigenous Youth Art (SEIYA)’ is going to encourage Indigenous student artists to take on art as a career. It is a place of learning, where they can have their own space, a place of inspiration, get ideas about art as a profession and where they can show their art to the world. “
Located in North Queensland, Australia, SEIYA is spearheaded by 6 Students from Year 8 & 9. A launch is planned for 19th September 2012. It will be a showcase event exhibiting artworks from current and past students of the school
